The course duration in a medical school is usually 4 years and the degree they offer is a doctor of Medicine (M.D.). After this, the aspirant has to go for a residency program, an internship or on-the-job training facilities. This residency program is of 5 years duration. Thus it is a long process. But the road does not end here. The person again has to sit for an exam to get his license. This exam includes both written tests and practical tests. As far as desirable personal traits are concerned, a surgeon must be self-motivated and have an undying zeal to help sick people. Further, he must have the mental and physical stamina to stand for long hours and that too under stress and tension. A surgeon must also keep himself updated with all new surgical instruments and devices and surgical techniques of treatment. So he must study all through his life. How to search General Surgeon jobs? As a beginner, a surgeon can start by doing private practice or in a hospital. Many surgeons also choose to work in military hospitals.
