Doctors play a vital role in the lives of people and society. They diagnose all kinds of illnesses and provide treatment and thus help a person live a healthy and long life.

Nature of the work:- Most physicians require that they work for long hours and sometimes even the work timings can be irregular. Some of them enter into solo practice but mostly physicians are employed as salaried individuals in big hospitals and health care centers.

Types of medical doctor jobs:- There are generally two types of physicians - Doctor of medicine (M.D.) and Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.). Both are almost similar in terms of work except the fact that D.O.'s make a more holistic patient-care attendant. M.D.s are more in the realm of a primary care specialist.

Further there are different branches in this profession such as Anesthesiologists, Family and general practitioners, General internists, General pediatricians, Obstetricians and gynecologists, Psychiatrists, Surgeons allergists, cardiologists, emergency physicians, dermatologists, gastroenterologists, pathologists, radiologists, etc. Working conditions- Physicians such as the general and family practitioner, pediatricians, gynecologists or obstetricians and psychiatrists often work in small clinics and offices that they operate on their own with a small staff of nurses. The other sub-specialists work in hospitals, clinics and healthcare organizations. As mentioned before, physicians have to work for long hours sometimes while standing in the operation room. Some who have their own clinics and who also work in a hospital always have to make adjustments between the two.

Employment- A recent survey revealed that every 1 out of 6 physicians are self-employed, with almost half of those who work in hospitals and health clinics as salaried professionals also have their own clinics at home. With the spread of more and more diseases, this sector is never going to die. In fact, with more improved methods of treatment for previously incurable diseases, the demand for doctors is on the rise.

Earnings Physicians are one of the highest-paid professionals. With time, experience and fame comes and also comes a huge amount of money. Also the salary of a physician depends on factors such as hours worked, success rate, overtime, and special pay for night shifts. Those who are salaried receive many other benefits and allowances. And for those who work from their own clinics, the amount they charge depends upon them.

Training- This job is one of the most respected and also the highest paid and thus the training required to become a physician is tough and complex. Firstly, an aspirant must complete his undergraduate studies in the science stream with a good grasp on subjects such as biology and chemistry. Then, he is required to be successful in an entrance examination for a seat in a medical college. After 4 years of study in a medical college, he is again required to study again for 4 5 years in the specialization, which he chooses.
