Plastic surgery is a medical procedure using which parts of the body like the ears, face, hands, trunk, etc., are molded and brought into a proper shape. Through cosmetic surgery, congenital problems as well as those resulting from accidents are repaired.

Firstly, a student who aspires to become a plastic surgeon must complete his undergraduate studies with competence in biology, chemistry, and physics. Then, a student needs to sit for a medical entrance exam to get a seat in an accredited medical school. After this, the student has to complete 5-6 years in residency training. For the first 3 years he/she has to train in general surgery and if he/she goes for some specialized type of plastic surgery, then in the last two years, he/she has to train in that specialization.

Specialties in Plastic Surgery:- With advancements in the medical field, many sub-specialties in plastic surgery are available. Some of the popular ones are - hand surgery, Vaginoplasty, Abdominoplasty, Umbilicoplasty, Blepharoplasty, buttock augmentation, chemical peel, Mastopexy, Labiaplasty, Rhinoplasty, Otoplasty, Rhytidectomy, Clitoroplasty, aesthetic surgery, cutaneous malignancy surgery, breast reconstruction, and craniofacial surgery.

Skills required to become a plastic surgeon:- A plastic surgeon must have a very good eye for detail and like most doctors must be able to work for long hours. Apart from this, he must be up to date with all the latest advancements in his respective field. Plastic surgeons must also possess good communication skills, as interaction with the patient is very crucial.

A plastic surgeon gets jobs basically in big hospitals and clinics. Very rarely, they open a clinic on their own. In fact, plastic surgeons who open clinics on their own are often the famous ones who have already made a name for themselves in this field.

Recent studies have revealed that plastic surgeons, with at least 1 year of experience, get a median salary of $282,000. But those plastic surgeons, who are quite popular in this profession, make a lot of money. This field is getting more and more popular and as such the future is bright for those aspiring to become a plastic surgeon.

I am considering training in the field of plastic surgery. The salary quoted here has surely upped my interest. It would be worth the years of hard work if you knew that was at the end of it.
